The Arawana Residence

A hillside sanctuary perched above Okanagan Lake. This is more than a modern designed home: it is built for comfort through extreme heat, cold and wildfire smoke. We designed the Arawana residence using Passive House principles, delivering acoustic calm and a thermal envelope built for stability.

Material honesty leads the design. The striking contrast of dark corrugated metal against warm wood soffits grounds the structure into the rocky terrain. Cantilevered balconies hover above the landscape, blurring the boundary between the rugged exterior and the refined, light-filled interior, culminating in a striking infinity pool that bleeds into the mountain views.

The true luxury is invisible. A continuous thermal envelope, triple-glazed windows, and advanced HEPA ERV filtration systems support pristine indoor air, creating a multi-generational home that is better protected against extreme heat and wildfire smoke. Rigorous BIM coordination on this complex sloped site helped resolve clashes and site errors before ground was broken.
